Case Study Format and Guidelines

    This is an example of how the case study should be formated. It is saved as a portable document file (PDF). You'll need the free Adobe Reader to view it. If you don't already have the reader, you can download it for free here.
  • Case study template
    This is a Microsoft Word template, to use it you must have Microsoft Word. When prompted choose Save and save the template to a familiar location on your computer. Once you have completed the template, either attached your saved template in an email to Mark Johnson or mail to:

The desired “case study” format is a document that is easy to comprehend and informative. The goal is to provide one to two page summaries providing information to facilitate the decision-making process on the golf course.

The following guidelines provide the format, content requirements, and the information summary.

Content

Title

Subtitle (Include category: Water Quality, Habitat, Efficiency, etc)

Author and/or Project Manager / Location / Sponsor Information
(Please provide the author’s and project manager’s pertinent information including credentials and locations for proper recognition and cross-referencing purposes)

Introduction (Suggested content includes):

  • Property description
    • Course name, city and state
    • Watershed / Basin
    • Other interesting description
  • Qualitative Items
    • Number of holes
    • Acres of facility
  • Geometrics
    • Species / Common names
    • Annual precipitation
    • Hydrology source
  • Describe the issue, problem or reasons for the actions or study taken and the desired results.
  • Provide the goals and time frames related to the issue and/or study.

Brief (Suggested content includes):

  • Briefly describe the work or study in enough detail to give the reader the basic understanding of the work being done and why specific actions may have been taken.
  • If specific or interesting challenges or issues were identified and had to be addressed, be sure to mention them as well.
  • Provide the resolution to those issues, provide general quantitative information in lieu of excessive details, and indicate the expected long or short term significance of the study.
  • Include the methods, practices, resources used, and the means to which the actions were taken.
  • Please include any interesting sources of funding, economic, costs, cost-benefit, cost-savings, increased visitations or revenue information, and related interests for the reader.

Summary (Suggested content):

  • If not mentioned in the brief, please include the results and summarize any reactions or responses from your constituents or customers.
  • You may provide your opinion or perspective on the issue.
  • Provide lessons learned or other interesting information that resulted from this work.

Photographs (Submit up to two photographs or graphic representation. Digital photos are preferred.)
