Designing for Sensitive Habitat
Author(s):  Jeffrey D. Brauer, ASGCA; Eric Nelson, ASGCA
A case study about the design process in volved in creating a state-owned resort golf course to broaden the tourist base of the Iron Range area in northern Minnesota. Local golf course owner, cross-country ski and snowmobile enthusiasts were consulted. The golf cart path system was carefully designed to serve as a cross-country ski trail in the winter, giving the land a multi-purpose use. Giant's Ridge Golf Club serves as an excellent example of how golf course architects and developers are working with environmental groups, state agencies and others to create golf courses that are economical and environmental success stories.
