Accomplishments

Scientific and technological advancements have changed golf dramatically over the last 50 years. The golf course management industry through the work of GCSAA’s Scholarship and Research Fund (1955 – 1994), The GCSAA Foundation (1995 – 2002) and now the Environmental Institute for Golf (The Institute) has helped pioneer many advances in the way golf courses are managed and has helped bring environmental stewardship to the preeminent position it has today.

50 years of support and collaboration has produced:

  • Completion of nearly 80 applied scientific research projects funded by The Institute. These projects have provided information to the golf course management industry on innovative best management practices.
  • The continuing education curriculum for the golf course management industry has played a key role in delivering practical information to advance the knowledge, skills and abilities of golf course superintendents to manage golf facilities in an environmentally-friendly manner.
  • Information, tools and resources have been made available to the industry to continuously advance environmental stewardship practices.
  • More than 1,300 scholarships have been awarded to individuals to advance their knowledge of golf course management.
